Conference in Memory of David M. Kinzer

A rapidly evolving marketplace suggests that disruptive/ transformational change is underway. As such, it is increasingly clear that the current ground rules for strategic success are quickly reaching the end of their useful life.  New strategies, tactics and business models will be required.

One of the greatest challenges confronting hospitals will be physician relationships. Navigating the conflicting forces impacting physicians and aligning physicians with hospital strategy will be essential.

Leading the transition will not be easy. There are no silver bullets.  What works for academic medical centers may not apply to community hospitals.  Moving forward will be a marathon, not a sprint.

This conference is intended to provide practical perspectives on some of the opportunities for aligning hospital/physician interests.

Dr. David Pickul, President, Medical Staff, Lowell General Hospital, will describe how a community hospital improved its physician relationships in a short period of time as evidenced by dramatically higher Press Ganey scores in this area.

Dr. David Torchiana, Chairman and CEO of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, the largest physician group practice in New England, will describe the MGH model for aligning hospital/physician economic and strategic interests, and offer insights for success.

Robert Reece, President of Cambridge Research Institute, will provide a national point of view on hospital/physician challenges, identifying options to improve alignment, and offering insights for developing physician buy-in to change.
